The City of Pittston has adopted a comprehensive zoning ordinance and zoning map. The zoning ordinance prescribes what types of structures and uses are permitted in the zones set forth on the zoning map. New structures, additions to existing structures, accessory structures, fences, decks, signs, and swimming pools, all must be approved by the Zoning Officer prior to construction via a Zoning Permit that can be obtained from the administrative offices at City Hall. A Zoning Permit is separate and distinct from a Building Permit that is issued by the Building Inspector. Please note, by ordinance, special zoning regulations are in effect for commercial building signs and facades for structures along tje "Commericial Business District" portions of South and North Main Streets. A copy of these special regulations is attached below. The Zoning Officer can also issue a Zoning Certificate of Use that shows the use of the building/property is in accordance with the Zoning Ordinance. Relief from a zoning regulation or violation may be granted by the Zoning Hearing Board. Information on how to file an appeal with the Zoning Hearing Board is available from the Zoning Officer. The City of Pittston has adopted by ordinance the most recent federal regulations required for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
