Pittston City Hall - Emergency Medical Services

Emergency Medical Services

Emergency medical services in the City are provided by the Greater Pittston Ambulance Association.

The Association was formed in 1952 by a small group of community-minded volunteers, who recognized the need for professional, pre-hospital care in the Pittston area. The Association began operations using one ambulance unit which, for many years, was housed in the basement garage of City Hall.

At its heart, the Association is still a volunteer organization. However, due to modern day realities, the Association now largely utilizes paid, professional emergency medical technicians and paramedics to staff two Mobile Intensive Care Units, an Advanced Life Support Squad unit, and a Basic Life Support Unit. Minimally, three personnel are on duty for each shift. The Association operates out of its modern headquarters located in the heart of the downtown, 83 South Main Street.

The Association has evolved over the years to become one of the most advanced emergency medical providers in the area. Recently, the Association began operating an advanced life support unit, designated Luzerne County Medic 29. Medic 29 is one of the first community-based advanced life support units in northern Luzerne County. The advance life support unit allows the Association to deliver the most effective care to the residents and visitors of the City.

The Association proudly cooperates with most of the communities that border the City of Pittston. In fact, the Association recently entered in to an innovative agreement with the West Pittston Community Ambulance to operate a joint, daytime paid duty crew.

The Association encourages anyone interested in its operations, or emergency medical services in general, to contact the station for further details at 570-654-1202. The Association will occasionally allow interested individuals to schedule a “ride along,” allowing civilians to experience real life emergency medical calls.
