Settled since the 1770s and a center of anthracite coal mining through much of the 19th and into the 20th centuries, the City of Pittston has coal mine legacy issues.  Towards addressing  these issues, the city has  appointed a municipal mine subsidence coordinator, Mr. John Ankenbrand.  Please contact city hall if you have any questions for Mr. Ankenbrand.

If you do see a suspected mine subsidence please stay away from the area and call 911.
